Manchester opticians boosts healthcare provision with £30,000 refit

Specsavers OCT machine

A Manchester opticians is currently completing a major three-week expansion project, representing a £30,000 investment into Fallowfield’s community healthcare provision.

Specsavers in Fallowfield will soon have state-of-the-art optical equipment, a new and improved layout, new test rooms, furniture and flooring and an upgraded IT system, all designed to improve customer experience.

The store will boast a new Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, which is usually found in hospital eye departments. It is used for a variety of functions including screening and management of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

The technology produces a structural scan of the eye, including layers of the eye that would not normally be visible using traditional eye testing techniques. The results are similar to an ultrasound or MRI scan, in that it creates multiple scan slice images that are built up to form a total image. The OCT machine uses a totally safe, laser light source and not x-ray-type radiation.

The growing demand for audiology services also means the Fallowfield’s store’s new equipment will see it offer an enhanced hearing service, supported by the store’s team of trained audiologists.

This investment in new facilities and technology will also further enhance the store’s capability, including the detection and management of minor eye conditions and dedicated diabetic screening.

Store director, Amanda Pedder, says: ‘This expansion is a proud milestone for our team, and has only been made possible by the loyal support of the Fallowfield community over the years.

‘The decision to invest in our store supports our growing business needs and has been carefully planned to ensure that we offer the best possible service to our customers.

‘With increased appointments, shorter waiting times, and improved technology, we’re really proud of the changes that we’re making to the store. The entire team is excited for our loyal customers to experience the changes for themselves, whilst welcoming new customers through the door.’
