Manchester singer-songwriter releases single in aid of bereavement charity and in memory of Manchester man

Jimmy Page performs the new charity single Lion King in Manchester

A Manchester singer-songwriter has released a single in aid of a bereavement charity and in memory of a Manchester man.

The song Lion King was written in memory of Jimmy Page’s friend, Michael Slim, who died aged 41, leaving behind a wife and three young children.

Jimmy, aged 28, from Manchester, has been writing music since his teens but until recently had never performed his own songs. However, this year he took the plunge and performed his own material at a series of open-mic nights, culminating in a solo show in Didsbury.

Jimmy has now recorded a charity single called Lion King , which can be streamed on Spotify or purchased via iTunes and Amazon Music. All proceeds from Lion King will be donated to Child Bereavement UK, the charity that supported his friend’s children.

The song was written in memory of Michael Slim of Sale, Manchester, who lost his life to pulmonary fibrosis leaving behind wife Laura and 3 children Jacob, Isabelle and Neave.

Singer songwriter, Jimmy Page said: “The song was written primarily for Jacob as losing his Dad at such a young age meant he prematurely had to become the man of the house and grow up much faster than any little man should ever have to.

“I wrote the song following a conversation with Laura and asked if she’d worked with any charities Laura pointed out the support she’d had from Child Bereavement UK.

“Every penny raised by this song whether streamed or purchased will forever go to this great charity in memory of Michael who was a great friend to me and a truly great man.”

Michael’s son, Jacob, ran the Junior Great Manchester run earlier this summer and raised almost £1,500 for the charity after completing the run in 11 mins and 44 seconds.

Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. The charity supports children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expected to live, and parents and the wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying.

Ruth Sanger, Community Fundraising Manager for Child Bereavement UK said: “We’re very grateful to Jimmy for using his song writing talents to help support Child Bereavement UK’s work with bereaved children and families. We hope lots of people will buy the single and be inspired by Jimmy’s words and music.”
