Warden Construction and funding representatives have gathered on site to mark the start of a new £4.6million integrated health centre in the heart of Little Hulton, Salford.
The new health hub, which has been funded by NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Salford Primary Care Together (SPCT) and Greater Manchester Pension Fund, will be built on vacant land on Longshaw Drive, adjacent to the current Little Hulton health centre.
Local GP practices will use the state-of-the-art centre, which will serve around 13,000 of the Little Hulton population, bringing together podiatry, speech and language therapy and diabetes clinics along with a smoking cessation service and mental health services.
The new facility will feature a two-storey aluminium-clad entrance highlighted by striking green cladding, which contrasts the remaining grey and white brickwork and white concrete render elements.
Richard Kenworthy, managing director at Warden Construction, commented: “This integrated health centre, designed to a BREEAM Excellent rating, will provide welcome regeneration of land which has been vacant and overgrown for over 10 years. Our team has already commenced site clearance and, with a 12-month build programme ahead of us, we’re expecting to open the doors to the public by Autumn 2020.”
Dr Tom Tasker, chair of NHS Salford CCG, said: “This new health centre will give people living in Little Hulton access to high quality, integrated services in modern and purpose-built surroundings.
“Throughout the development of these plans, the CCG and GP practices have been speaking to the local community about what they want from health and wellbeing services in the area and we’ve listened to those views. This new health centre is going to bring significant benefits to Little Hulton as their GP practice will be working from much more modern building, as well as bringing more hospital services into the community and closer to people at home.”
The wider project team consists of architects Bluesky, WML Consulting Ltd providing civil and structural services and TACE acting as mechanical and electrical engineers.
