Sharpsmart Employee Recognised Following Successful NHS Customer Visit to Normanton Facility

Sharpsmart's Normanton Healthcare Waste Treatment Facility

The visit highlighted the importance of transparency, technical expertise and customer confidence in healthcare waste management.

Normanton, West Yorkshire: Sharpsmart has received outstanding customer feedback following a successful Duty of Care visit by representatives from Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust to its Normanton treatment facility.

The visit gave the Trust’s waste management team the opportunity to see behind the scenes at the site, meet members of Sharpsmart’s operations and customer service teams, and gain a deeper understanding of the processes that support the safe and compliant treatment of healthcare waste.

The visit was attended by Marta Garcier, Waste Manager, and Noleen Hopkin, Waste Monitoring Officer, from Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. It was hosted by the Sharpsmart Contract Manager for the Trust, Amber Marshall, with the plant tour led by Compliance Manager, Rob Green, who received exceptional feedback for his professionalism, technical knowledge and clear approach to explaining the treatment process.

In feedback shared after the visit, Rob was recognised for taking the time to provide a comprehensive tour of the site and for demonstrating a highly professional, enthusiastic and engaging approach throughout.

The Normanton facility was also praised for its exceptional standards, including its clean, safe and well-developed environment, strong infrastructure and clear commitment to operational excellence.

A key part of the visit was the opportunity to explore Sharpsmart’s proprietary approach to alternative treatment for sharps waste. Rob was able to explain the process in detail, helping to answer technical questions and provide reassurance around the controls, standards and expertise behind the service.

Paul Simpson, Sharpsmart’s National Operations Manager, said: “This feedback is a true reflection of the knowledge and passion our teams bring to the services we provide every day. Rob has such a comprehensive understanding of our complex treatment processes that he immediately instils confidence in customers and regulators alike; in addition, the wider Normanton team should be proud of the standards they attain and which they demonstrated during the visit.”

For Sharpsmart, the visit also reinforced the value of inviting customers to see the people and processes behind the service. While customers regularly work with their Contract Manager and Customer Service contacts, site visits provide a fuller view of the operational expertise supporting clinical waste management after collection.

The Trust’s representatives were also able to put faces to names across the wider business, including customer service colleagues, drivers and operational specialists who all play a role in delivering a safe, reliable and compliant service.

Amber Marshall, Contract Manager for the Trust, said: “When customers visit the site, they get to see the bigger picture. It helps them understand not only what happens to their waste after collection, but also the level of knowledge, teamwork and care that sits behind the service. Rob was fantastic on the day and really helped bring that process to life.”

Sharpsmart continues to support NHS and private healthcare customers through a consultative approach to clinical waste management, combining service delivery with education, compliance support and operational expertise.

The positive feedback from Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust highlights the role that transparency and technical knowledge can play in building trust and confidence between healthcare providers and their waste management partner.
